Where do guests come from?
Our guests come from all over the world: From the four corners of the US, Canada, Europe, Africa and South America. You'll get to meet and make friends with people whose language and culture might be different, but whose goals are the same as yours--to lose weight, get healthy and enjoy a fantastic vacation. Is this a Spa Program?
Though you can enjoy a massage, indulge in a facial, or even try reflexology (for discount prices--how cool is that?) Shane Diet & Fitness Resorts is a diet and weight loss program. Our guests don't come for the spa services, but to lose weight, ramp up their fitness, and have a terrific vacation. Since we are not a spa in the traditional sense, you won't get bugged to buy expensive "products" (or vitamins or special foods, for that matter.) This helps us keep the costs down which means the savings get passed on to you. (Return to Top)

I haven’t been exercising lately.  Will I be able to keep up?
Sure. Since everybody gets their own level of fitness evaluated (privately--not to worry) by one of our fitness staff, an exercise program is created just for you. (Return to Top)

What if I'm really overweight?
Whether you have a little or a lot of weight to lose, Shane Diet & Fitness Resorts will be able to help you get going...but definitely get a medical checkup and your doctor's okay before you begin. If you have any special issues or concerns, call us. (Return to Top)

How long should I stay?
The minimum stay is one week. That's just enough time to get a jump start on your weight loss goals and start a fitness program you can live with when you get home. Two weeks is better. If you can stay longer—four weeks or more—you'll naturally lose even more weight and get more fit.

How much weight can I expect to lose? 
If you stick to the program (no sneaking candy bars or napping through every exercise class) you can expect to lose at least 3-5 pounds a week, depending on your current weight and fitness level. Many guests lose much more! (Return to Top)

What's included in the cost?
The Shane Diet & Fitness Resorts weight loss program fee is all-inclusive and covers:

  • Your room (for single, double or triple accommodations, all depending on availability)
  • All meals and snacks
  • A personal fitness evaluation
  • A highly supervised and fun activity program
  • Nutrition, cooking and exercise classes
  • Behavior change coaching
  • Excursions and shopping trips*
  • Seminars and lifestyle programs
  • All taxes and gratuities
  • Personal training workouts
  • Nutrition 1-on-1 consultations
(Excluded is transportation to/from the Honor’s Haven, personal laundry, spa treatments, and golf lessons, though some of these are available at discounted rates.)

*Special excursions such as an evening out with your new friends, concert tickets to Bethel Woods and the water park are also excluded.) (Return to Top)

Can I extend my stay?
Yes. Many of our guests extend their stay because they love the program. Extensions are subject to room availability and are not eligible for the discount provided if you were to sign up for that length of stay initially. For example, if you sign up for four weeks, double occupancy, the cost would be $1,800 per week. If instead, you sign up for two weeks, double occupancy and then extend two weeks for a total of four weeks, the cost would be $1,850 per week.(Return to Top)

Can you accommodate vegetarians, food allergies or special dietary needs?
We offer vegetarian options at each meal and work with you to accommodate any food allergies or special dietary needs. We want you to like the food, so please tell us about what you need before you come and we will be happy to help. (Return to Top)

Is there medical emergency help available?

Does my medical insurance cover a stay at Shane Diet & Fitness Resorts?
It's possible, but everybody's insurance is different. Check with your insurer and we'll be glad to help with the paperwork if you find you are covered. (Return to Top)

What are the rooms like?
We offer single, double and triple accommodations (subject to availability.) The rooms are big and have lovely private baths. We will match you with a roommate for double and triple accommodations, or bring a friend or family. (Return to Top)

What time is check in?  Check out?
Check in begins at 2 pm on the first day of each weekly session, though your room may not be ready until 4 pm. Orientation begins after dinner on the first evening. Check-out time is 11 am on the last day of each session. (Return to Top)

Can I get airport transportation?
Our van service can only pick up at Newark Airport and you need to arrive before 2 pm. Return flights should be arranged to depart after 2 pm. If your flight schedule doesn’t permit our van to transport you, there is bus and private car service available. What is the Change and Cancellation Policy? Do you accept SpaFinder Gift Certificates?
  • If you cancel more than thirty days before the start of the session, you will receive a full refund of all fees previously paid, less a non-refundable registration fee of $250. 
  • If you cancel less than thirty days prior to the start of the enrolled session, the fees paid are non-refundable.
  • Due to the seasonal nature of the program, there is no refund or credit for any part of the session not completed.
  • Yes,we do accept SpaFinder Gift Certificates which can be used to pay for all tuition EXCEPT for the registration fee of $250.

Can I bring my cell phone/PDA?
Sure, but text your friends you will be too busy dropping pounds to chat much with them. Promise you'll post photos the second you are in those slimmer jeans. And please set your phone to vibrate during the day. Ringing throws off everybody's concentration...including yours. Or better yet—leave your phone in the room. (Return to Top)

How about my laptop? 
Yes, there is free wireless available throughout the Resort, including in the guest rooms, but we have no computer guru on-site to help if your laptop doesn't like the Catskills, so prepare to be self-sufficient technology-wise. (Return to Top)

Can I bring my pet?
Nope. We love our pets too (we have a Standard Poodle!), but we are concentrating on humans here. Promise your dog more long, healthy walks when you get home and your cat...well, you'll more energetically clean their litter box when you are fit and healthy. (Return to Top)

Do I need a car during my stay?
No. We can arrange for transportation to/from Honor's Haven, where we are located, and provide transportation for any outside programs and excursions. But if you do bring a car, free parking is available. (Return to Top)

What should I bring with me?
We'll send you a packing list, but we are casual here. Bring:
  • Shorts, t-shirts, bathing suits, and workout clothes for the day.
  • Jeans, slacks, t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters and sweatshirts for night.
  • Comfortable sneakers and hiking shoes, flip-flops for the pool and spa, and a rain jacket/poncho and umbrella.
  • A flashlight for evening walks .
  • A light backpack for excursions.
  • A water bottle for every day.
  • Something a bit dressier for any special evening entertainment. 
  • Books and your iPod (what's life without music?)
  • Snow Boots, winter coat, hat & gloves (for the winter session)
Though the Weight Loss Resort does have complimentary safe deposit boxes available in each room, we recommend you leave the expensive jewelry and valuables at home. (Return to Top)

Will I need to bring money?
Bring a major credit card if you want to use the discounted spa services, play golf, take horseback riding lessons or for special excursions, like if you want to catch a movie or join us for a dinner out (it's practice for going back to the "real world"—we'll be right there to help you make good food choices.) (Return to Top)

Bring some cash if you want to do laundry—we'll send it out for you and get it back same day clean and nicely folded. For a minimum of 10 lbs it will cost $10.  Most guests incur about $15 a week to get their laundry done.

There’s a store on site at the Weight Loss Resort for everyday personal items like batteries, toothbrushes, dental floss and hair conditioner. (Return to Top)

What spa services are available?

Is there television available?
We've got a great flat screen television and DVD player for watching movies and shows in the evening. Every room has a TV, too, but unless you’re planning your new career as "America's Next Top Model", what are you doing watching TV? Get up and out! (Return to Top)

Is smoking allowed?
All rooms and common indoor areas of the Resort are smoke-free. Smokers are limited to smoking in designated outdoor areas during free periods. (Return to Top)
